As I've been running Studio Dylan from my home office for the past couple of years, I decided to share my advice for maintaining a healthy work-life balance and productivity when working from home.
• Change out of your PJs! While it might be fun for the first couple of days to stay in bed and keep it casual, this is unsustainable for the long-term. Instate a morning routine that loosely resembles your pre-WFH habits.
Wake up at a reasonable hour.
Make the bed.
Take a shower.
Put on normal clothes (comfy okay!)
• Respect lunch! Unlike a shared workspace where you'll have multiple social interactions throughout the day, when working from home, it's very easy to get sucked into tasks and lose track of time. Chapterize your day by having a proper lunch so you can refuel to maintain mental endurance. Consider taking a walk around the block or focus on breathing for a few minutes to reset for the afternoon.
• "Commute" to your personal time! When you're done with work for the day, pack up your materials and store them in a closet or close the office door. Act like you are commuting home, by which I mean create physical separation between your work and personal spaces as much as possible.
• And of course...have fun! If you want to work out at 11AM, go for it. If you'd love to get a head start on dinner, do it. But try to develop a daily or weekly routine so that you can establish and respect your separate work and personal mindsets.
